作者简介李峰，陕西宝鸡人。1983年西北大学历史系考古专业毕业，1986年获中国社会科学院考古研究所硕士学位，之后从事西周都城丰镐遗址的发掘。1990年进入日本东京大学，并于次年起攻读博士学位； 2000年获得芝加哥大学博士学位。
美国哥伦比亚大学东亚语言和文化系教授，哥伦比亚大学唐氏早期中国研究中心主任。擅长田野考古、古文字特别是西周金文与文献的综合研究，注重考古学与比较历史学理论和方法论的探索。2002年创办哥伦比亚大学早期中国讲座。曾主持山东龙口归城古城遗址的中美联合调查与发掘。中英文主要著作：《西周的灭亡：中国早期国家的地理和政治危机》《西周的政体：中国早期的官僚制度和国家》《早期中国：社会与文化史》等。
