Leonardo's Mountain of Clams and the Diet of Worms is the newest collection of best-selling scientist Stephen Jay Gould's popular essays from Natural History magazine (the longest-running series of scientific essays in history). 斯蒂芬·杰·古尔德（1941—2002年），美国古生物学家、演化生物学家，科学史学家与科普作家，职业生涯中大多在哈佛大学担任教职，并曾在纽约的美国自然史博物馆工作。1972年，他与纽约美国自然史博物馆的尼尔斯·埃尔德里奇（Niles Eldredge）共同提出“间断平衡”（Punctuated Equilibrium）进化理论，由此享誉全球。作品有《生命的壮阔》《熊猫的拇指》《自达尔文以来》等。

译者：傅强，地层与古生物学博士，中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所研究员，南京古生物博物馆副馆长。长期从事古植物学、化石资源调查研究和科学传播工作，2014年获得国家科学技术进步奖二等奖。
