The Ideology of the Aesthetic presents a history and critique of the concept of the aesthetic throughout modern Western thought. 作者简介特里·伊格尔顿（Terry Eagleton, 1943- ），当代著名文学批评家和文化理论家。1964年大学毕业后任雷蒙·威廉斯的助理研究员。1969年到牛津大学任教，长期担任凯瑟琳学院沃顿英文和文学理论讲座教授，现任曼彻斯特大学英文讲座教授。从60年代末开始，伊格尔顿以“新马克思主义”美学和文艺理论评析当代西方各种美学和文学批评流派，分析和评价英美一些作家的作品，在当代美学尤其是西方马克思主义美学界影响广泛。主要著作有《批评与意识形态》、《马克思主义与文学批评》、《文学理论引论》、《莎士比亚与社会：莎士比亚戏剧论文集》、《力量的神话：对勃朗特姐妹的马克思主义研究》等。
