作者简介儒勒·凡尔纳（Jules Verne，1828.2.8～1905.3.25）生于法国西部海港南特，他在构成市区一部分的劳阿尔河上的菲伊德岛生活学习到中学毕业。父亲是位颇为成功的律师，一心希望子承父业。但是凡尔纳自幼热爱海洋，向往远航探险。11岁时，他曾志愿上船当见习生，远航印度，结果被家人发现接回了家。为此凡尔纳挨了一顿狠揍，并躺在床上流着泪保证：“以后保证只躺在床上在幻想中旅行。”也许正是由于这一童年的经历，客观上促使凡尔纳一生驰骋于幻想之中，创作出如此众多的著名科幻作品。
