作者简介

威廉·戈尔丁(1911—1993)，英国当代最伟大作家之一。出身于英国西南部一个知识分子家庭，文学启蒙极早。1930年，戈尔丁进入牛津大学攻读自然科学，后转读英国文学，1934年他出版处女作《诗集》。第二次世界大战爆发后，他加入皇家海军，投身战场，1945年，退役返回学校教授英国文学。《蝇王》是他的第一部长篇小说，一经出版便获得极大成功，之后又出版一系列精彩之作，包括《继承者》《品契·马丁》《塔尖》等。1980年，戈尔丁因作品《航程祭典》获得布克奖；1983年获得诺贝尔文学奖；1988年被授予爵士爵位。
