作者简介埃内斯托•萨瓦托（1911-2011），阿根廷著名作家，二十世纪拉美文学先驱。曾两次去巴黎学习，深受法国文学影响。年轻时曾在居里实验室从事原子放射研究。一九四五年起专事文学创作。他在吸收超现实主义创作手法的同时，还注意学习欧美其他现代派的写作技巧，逐步形成了自己独特的风格，被誉为心理现实主义大师。
一九四八年，萨瓦托出版了他的第一部小说《隧道》，这部小说细腻地描述了人物的心理活动，开创了拉美小说的一个新的方向，一个新的文学流派。小说一出版就立刻受到评论界和读者的诸多赞誉，这部小说被译成多国文字，并由莱昂•克莫夫斯基搬上银幕。
