美国作家。1962年出生于美国纽约一个知识分子家庭。大学的毕业论文是他的第一部小说《系统的笤帚》（The Broom of the System，1987），书名受哲学家维特根斯坦《逻辑哲学论》的启发，其内容、结构布局和碎片式叙事都与维特根斯坦的语言游戏理论形成呼应。
