赫尔曼·麦尔维尔（Herman Melville, 1819年8月1日—1891年9月28日），美国小说家、散文家和诗人。由于家境不好，做过农夫、职员、教师、水手、海军等职务，后来成为小说家，他以其海上经历为事实依据写成其寓言杰作《白鲸记》（1851年），这部小说被认为是美国最伟大的小说之一。英国作家毛姆在《世界十大小说家及其代表作》一书中对《白鲸记》的评价远在美国其他作家爱伦·坡与马克吐温之上。麦尔维尔生前默默无闻，穷愁潦倒以终，在《白鲸记》出版后七十年才暴得大名；他的作品还包括短篇小说，如《书记员巴特子比》（1856年）以及中篇小说《比利·巴德》（1924年出版）。
